How points cards work

Customers earn points from either spend or visits. They can then unlock reward tiers when they reach the required point amount.

Earning methods

Method	How it works	Best for
Spend amount	Points are based on the transaction amount entered by staff.	Rewarding higher spend.
Visit	Customers earn a fixed number of points per visit.	Simple visit-based loyalty.

Spend-based points

Use spend-based points when customers should earn more for larger purchases. Staff may need to enter the transaction amount in the Scanner before points can be awarded.

Example: earn 1 point per £1 spent.

Visit-based points

Use visit-based points when each visit should earn the same amount.

Example: earn 10 points per visit.

Reward tiers

Reward tiers define what customers can redeem.

Tier field	What it means
Unlock threshold	Points needed before the reward is available.
Reward type	Percentage off, fixed value, or custom reward.
Cost	Points deducted when the reward is redeemed.
Description	Customer-facing reward text.

Example tiers

Points	Reward
100	Free pastry
250	£5 off
500	20% off a meal

Best practice

Make the first reward reachable. If the first tier feels too far away, customers may stop caring before they form the habit.
